Specialism(s) Phonics, EYFS
Updated as of: April 2019
The majority of my experience is within Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Having been the Phonics Lead in a school with a high proportion of children who have English as an additional Language, this allowed me to gather a wide range of strategies to support early reading and writing in a variety of creative, purposeful and stimulating ways.
Within my present role as Phonics and Foundation Stage lead, I have the opportunity to work within a successful team who endeavour to give every child the secure foundations they need as they begin their learning journey. I am very keen to collaborate and share my experiences and ideas with others.
Support and Qualifications:
The phonics support that I am able to offer includes; phonic subject knowledge, progression through the phases, teaching strategies and how to successfully deliver phonics, lesson ideas, assessment, Year 1 screening check support.
The EYFS support that I am able to offer includes; curriculum subject knowledge, teaching and learning, planning and assessment, behaviour management, provision, supporting children with EAL.
Most current work/experience:
I am currently working as Foundation Stage Lead and Phonics lead alongside my teaching role at Welton St Mary’s Primary Academy. I have worked at the Academy for four years. Previously, I worked at St Peter at Gowts for two years.
Why you wanted to become an SLE:
I wanted to become an SLE as I am passionate about EYFS and phonics and I am keen to share my skills, knowledge and experiences with others. I believe that all children should be provided with a high quality education and should enjoy learning! Therefore, it is important that we are all life-long learners so we continue to improve our skills and share good practise in order provide outstanding teaching and learning for every child.
